Big Sean Calls Working With Eminem on ‘The Death of Slim Shady’ a ‘Full-Circle Moment’

Image
Growing up in Detroit, Eminem has long been one of Big Sean’s idols. Sean Don has worked with Em in the past, but this time on The Death of Slim Shady was extra special for the 36-year-old. Billboard caught up with Big Sean on the red carpet prior to the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards on Wednesday (Sept. 11) at UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., where Sean reflected on teaming up with Eminem for “Tobey.” “I’m happy to be a part of that album as well. For sure, for sure. [The Slim Shady LP] was the first album I bought from Costco with my birthday money,” he explained. “That was way back. To be on The Death of Slim Shady was a full-circle moment.” “Tobey” happened to be an all-Detroit affair, as Eminem recruited the emerging BabyTron to complete the trio. The single ended up peaking at No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. It marked the fourth Big Sean x Eminem team-up, following in the footsteps of “Detroit Vs. Everybody,” “No Favors” and Detroit 2‘s “Friday Night Cypher.” Eminem opened the 2024 ...

Eminem's Mother Reportedly Terminally Ill With Lung Cancer

Image
Eminem‘s mother Debbie Mathers is reportedly terminally ill after being diagnosed with lung cancer. According to a report from In Touch Weekly, Debbie, who famously has a troubled relationship with her son, does not have long left to live. A source tells the publication: “There are not many options [for Debbie]. She is currently staying between the cancer center and with family members. She has a very limited amount of time [left].” The report adds that while Eminem has been taking care of his 69-year-old mother financially for a number of years, the rap legend has not had contact with her for a long time. People around her aren’t even sure if Eminem is even aware of what is happening to his mother. He’s good to his mom. He makes sure he takes care of her, but they don’t really talk,” the source says. “It would be good for both of them [to communicate]. This could give them the chance to reconcile.” Debbie was previously diagnosed with breast cancer, telling The Village Voice in 2...

#EMINEM_NEWS 🚨🚨JUST IN:Steve Young had a memorable encounter with Eminem at halftime of the NFC championship game: 📸💝🤟

Image
"When I went and saw Eminem at halftime, I said bro you taste it don't you? and he said 'I do taste it.' I said spit it out bro, because you gotta get to 34... He never got to 34. Young said he left the chatter about the game at the scene. He didn’t want to rub the 49ers’ amazing win -- and the Lions’ painful loss -- in anymore. “It was just right then,” Young said. “I’m not that kind of guy, ‘Oh, let me see if I can keep a good stream going.’ It would have to be organic -- organic or nothing.” Plus, Young genuinely enjoyed having a conversation with Eminem. “He was a good dude,” Young said. “He was thoughtful. You could see what a fan he was.” It's unlikely Young and Eminem will be in the same room again, but with the expectations San Francisco and Detroit bear for the 2024 NFL season, there’s a good chance the two organizations will meet again with another trip to the big game on the line.

When Eminem won an Oscar for Lose Yourself, from his semi-autobiographical film Eight Mile, in 2003

Judge Aleta A. Trauger published her opinion on 15 August, writing that Spotify should not be liable for any damages. She highlighted that, although Kobalt was authorised to collect royalties for Eminem's music, it was not authorised to licence the songs in the US and Canada. Instead, those rights had been transferred in 2009 to company called Bridgeport Music, which is affiliated to Eight Mile itself. However, the company "never formally notified any third party that it was taking over" the licensing of Eminem's music, Judge Trauger wrote. This situation was "inexplicable", said the judge, unless it was a "strategic" attempt to extract money from Spotify by claiming copyright infringement. Noting that the company had never sent Spotify "a single cease-and-desist letter", she said that Eight Mile was not the "hapless victim" it claimed to be. "Eight Mile Style, had every opportunity to set things right and simply chose no...

When Eight Mile Style sued Spotify in 2019, it said the company had "acted deceptively" by pretending to have licenses for 243 Eminem songs, when it did not. It further accused the company of making "random payments" for hits that had been streamed hundreds of millions of times, saying the money only accounted for "a fraction of those streams". Intriguingly, Eminem was not a party to the lawsuit, only became aware of the legal action when it was filed. "[We are] just as surprised as anyone else by this news," his publicist told The Verge at the time. The star's music remained on Spotify throughout the five-year case. He is currently the 12th most-streamed artist on the platform, with 76 million monthly listeners. Spotify responded to the lawsuit in 2020 by blaming Kobalt Music Publishing, a company that administers the rights to hundreds of thousands of songs, as well as collecting royalties for rights-holders. In court documents, Spotify al...

#EMINEM_NEWS 🚨🚨JUST IN:Spotify wins case over 'billions' of Eminem streams.⁉️👀🗞️

Image
Eminem is one of the most-streamed artists in the world, with 76 million monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Spotify has won a long-running court case, in which it was accused of streaming Eminem's music without permission. The case was launched in 2019 by the rapper's publisher, Eight Mile Style, which said Spotify failed to correctly license Eminem's work. They sued the music company for approximately £30m, saying that the star had never received full payment for songs like Lose Yourself and Without Me, which have been "streamed on Spotify billions of times". But a judge in Tennessee has ruled that Spotify will not be liable for any lost royalties, despite finding that Spotify did not have a license to stream the tracks. The court also concluded that, if Spotify were to be found guilty of copyright infringement, any penalty would have to be paid by Kobalt Music Group, which collected royalties on behalf of Eminem's publisher. The case illustrates how confusi...

Eminem once again meets fans through Make A Wish Foundation. He met a young boy named Stanly and his family yesterday. thank you to Make-A-Wish and Eminem for granting Stanley’s wish yesterday. It was the most unforgettable and special experience ever. Words cannot express the gratitude I have, along with Stanley’s dad for the opportunity to make this happen!” her mother tweeted.
